In 1997, the Harbin Coslight Power Sources Factory has introduced successively the most advanced equipment in the world such as: full automatic plate casting machine, plate coating machine and full automatic production line from Germany, Austria and America. In May 2001, a modern workshop of 71 meters in span for production of valve-regulated storage battery, a new workshop of 24 meters in span for production of new battery cabinet, and a workshop of 18 meters in span for production of separator was star building one after another. After completion, the production capacity for valve-regulated lead acid storage battery would reach 1 million K/Ah, twice the production capacity in the past.
In July, “Harbin Coslight Battery Co., Ltd.”changed its name to be “Harbin Coslight Power Supply Co., Ltd.” which main products were Li-ion battery, battery for mobile phone, UPS, and DC power supply system.
On August 5, the basic hardware project for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) of Harbin Coslight Power Supply Co., Ltd. started. On September 1, the Department of Network of the Group was set up which main tasks were to be responsible for the construction of the overall network engineering of the group, office automation, and operation and maintenance of hardware for ERP management system.
In 2001, in order to build the company into a modern enterprise and a production base with international level for Li-ion cells and batteries for mobile phone 21 sets of equipment were imported, factory buildings of 20,000 square meters were reformed. All middle-level managers of the company were trained for 50 class hours and to meet the market demand for quantity and quality of the Coslight Li-ion battery.
In 2001, the group built new factory buildings of 21,000 square meters. Its domestic sales amount reached 800 million RMB yuan and earned foreign exchange to 1.38 million US dollars. Three more overseas offices were established. On December 23, approved by the Post-Doctoral Management Commission of the People's Republic of China and the State Ministry of Personnel, the Post-Doctoral Research Station of the Coslight Institute was founded.
By December 31, 2001, the sales of valve-regulated storage battery ranked the first place for four consecutive years in the same industry in China. The income from sales of the group company ranked the fourth place in the same industry in China. Coslight brand products won a series of honors both in China and abroad. Coslight Brand lead acid storage battery was recommended by China Council for Promotion of International Trade and French Technical Quality Supervision as high-quality product, and also won titles as the Key Project of the State Torch Plan and Famous Brand Product of Heilongjiang Province. Coslight battery for mobile phone and automobile storage battery were graded as the Best Selling Products on Harbin's Market. Comrade Song Dianquan, Chairman of Coslight, was elected the Model of Outstanding Manager of New and High-tech Enterprise in 2000.
In the beginning of 2002, Coslight batteries for mobile phones were supplied steadily to famous domestic mobile manufacturers in large quantity. In June of the same year, Harbin Coslight Power Supply Co., Ltd. invested and set up an assembling production line in Shenzhen to produce Li-ion batteries of mobile phones to meet the demands of some well-known large enterprises such as the Soutech, ZTE, CECT, UTstartcom , and Amoisonic, etc.
From February 2002, the Department of Manpower Resources and the Department of Enterprise Management invited some senior advisers at the state level, professors from universities, and experts from foreign funded enterprises, and senior leaders of the group to train middle-level manager and technical officer on product standards, six Sigma green belts and black belts, project management, and quality system. At the same time, managers and senior engineers of the group were invited to train the workers on the front line, officers, workers at special working procedures, and all workers in the assembling workshop on more than ten topics including expertise of operation, production technology, MSA, operation direction, control of plan, inspection standards, procedure documentation, six Sigma conception, etc. The team stuff of all branch companies was improved to promote rapid development of the group.
On August 12 of the same year, the group signed a formal contract of joint investment with Shenyang Battery Co., Ltd. Both sides agreed to set up Shenyang Northeast Battery Co., Ltd. through negotiation. Coslight International Group would hold 66.67% of the stocks. After joint investment a land of 70,000 square meters was increased and plaza area of 4,000 square meters was reformed with reforestation. Through adjustment and restoration from September 2002 to December 31, 2002, the company lead on to the correct path .In the four-month period, the company fulfilled sales volume of 51.2847 million RMB yuan with profit of 2.57 million yuan.
In September 2002, the quality management system of Harbin Coslight Battery Co., Ltd. was certified by China Fangyuan Mark Certification Center to be in conformity to the GB/T19001-2000 idt ISO9001:2000 Standards.
In 2002, Harbin Coslight Electric Automation Co., Ltd., as a newly developed manufacturer for electric power automatic products, was becoming well-known and accepted by more and more customers. Their efforts in optimization of hardware structure of the products, development of compact series installations, and better appearance design of the products was highly evaluated by customers and business people in related industries. Coslight Electric Automation Co., Ltd. completed 188 engineering projects and fulfilled sales volume of 26 million yuan in 2002.
